Recent studies have documented up to 65% less post-operative pain when compared to traditional spay for laparoscopic spay procedures.
Laparoscopic spay or laparoscopic ovariectomy is performed through two tiny holes in the abdomen, typically 3/16″ in size utilizing a camera to magnify structures within the abdominal cavity. The ovarian ligament is carefully cut and cauterized rather than torn as in traditional spay. Recovery time is decreased and risk of hernia is greatly reduced. In larger breed dogs, laporoscopic spay can be combined with gastropexy (for prevention of gastric dilatation and volvulus or “bloat”)
